East Pole Paddles work mainly with two types of wood:

They guys at East Pole Paddles use a technology called laminating in order to get the paddles stronger without compromising too much weight. Basically this technique consists in finishing the red cedar paddles with black alder edges and/or tips. This way you get the benefits of the stronger wood on those places where the paddle suffers more, without the need of having a paddle made of 100% heavier wood.

Su acabado standard y recomendado es el aceitado, pero como he dicho antes producen cualquier cosa que el cliente pida. Tratan a las palas con al menos 5 capas de aceite de tung y si nunca has trabajado con este tipo de tratamiento, ellos te ayudarán y resolverán todas tus dudas al respecto. Sin duda, el tacto de las palas aceitadas es muy natural y cálido. A mi personalmente me encanta.
Their standard and recommend finish is oil, but as I said before they produce anything the client ask for under special order. They treat the paddles with at least 5 layers of tung oil and if you have never dealed with this kind of treatment, they are happy to explain how to take the best care of your paddle. Definitely the feeling of the oiled paddles is extremely natural and warm. I personally love it.

A typical inconvenience of greenland wooden paddles is the length and not being able to break in two pieces like many other paddles, but the guys at East Pole Paddles have a system to make a nice wooden paddle breakable. They use an aluminum rod inside the loom to keep it strong and light at the same time. They use a bolt instead of a quick release system in order to keep the loom clear, making it feel the same than any other one piece paddle.

Hoy en día este es el único uso que queda para las reproducciones que muchos amantes de la técnica groenlandesa llevan en sus kayaks.
The norsaq is the harpoon throwing tool inuits used to give some extra thrust to their hunting tools. They also found a second use as rolling tool in case they would flip during a hunting action. Nowadays this is the only use that remains for the reproductions that many greenland paddlers have in their kayaks.

A pesar de que no hay mucha información sobre estas, los chicos que East Pole Paddles han hecho un gran trabajo. Last but not least, recently East Pole Paddles have added to it's catalog the Aleutians Paddles. This kind of paddles comes from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. Even though there is not much information about them, the guys at East Pole Paddles have made a great work. They presented them at Paddle Expo 2015 and I was one of the lucky ones who got one. I will be testing it soon.
